School Programs

We proudly provide impactful, emotionally supportive programming to 6 different schools in Whatcom County throughout the school year.

Groups who come to the farm for programming are students who are needing additional emotional support at school, everyone comes to the farm with different needs. Our team of mentors and horses provide a safe space for people to explore their feelings and emotions.

Horses help participants gain self-awareness by reflecting their own reactions and feelings. They teach us the importance of clear communication and thoughtful leadership, fostering trust in ourselves and others.

In these programs we aim to help participants become the best versions of themselves, teaching about de-escalation, self awareness, clear communication, self care and the power of acts of kindness and gratitude.

School Programming Objectives include:

  • Emotional Regulation: Helping youth develop tools to increase awareness of and manage anxiety, depression, trauma-related reactions, and regulate emotions through equine interaction.

  • Behavioral Modification: Teaching students to pause and choose to respond versus react when triggered. We teach skills such as breathing regulation and how to manage frustrations without violence and with kindness.

  • Self-Esteem and Confidence: Empowering participants to recognize their intrinsic worth, overcome challenges, and set personal goals for success.

  • Relationship Building: Modeling how to create mutually respectful relationships by setting personal boundaries, clear communication and a willingness to forgive yourself and others.

  • Building Resilience: Supporting youth to bounce back from setbacks and increase their ability to cope with life’s difficulties and to overcome obstacles to reach their goals.

  • Leadership and Teamwork: Encouraging youth to develop leadership skills by setting a goal, having a plan, working with both their peers and the animals in an empathetic manner while using effective non violent communication.

  • Restoring Hope: Reducing feelings of hopelessness and isolation, helping participants believe in themselves, their futures and practicing gratitude in their daily lives.
